After you’ve spent a long day at work, your bedroom should be a place of rest and comfort. It should therefore include several elements that are conducive to this feeling of relaxation. Here are some decorating tricks for your master bedroom.
Integrate Symmetry
Make the area around your bed symmetrical—the visual uniformity will create a soothing. When your eyes see no surprises or irregularities in the room, your mind will relax. Place matching nightstands on either side of the bed, and center artwork over the headboard to achieve symmetry. Balancing your immediate sleeping area in such a way will bring a sense of calm.
Use the Rule of Three
The rule of three proposes that when objects are arranged in sets of three, they’re more gratifying to the eye than if they were grouped by other numbers. You can follow this idea in your bedroom decorating by placing triads of identical items around the room, such as three pillows on the bed or three artwork pieces side by side on a wall. You don’t necessarily need to use three exact objects, either. When you decorate the top of your nightstand, for example, you can put a lamp, a small plant, and a picture frame together. As long as they share some sort of uniting element, such as a single color, they can create a calming mood.
Add Rugs
Put a rug down to adorn the bedroom. Besides adding to the symmetry of your bed’s arrangement in the room, a rug will also bring interest to a floor that otherwise might be quite plain. Be sure to use a rug larger than the area the bed covers to ensure the proportions aren’t thrown off. A rug that’s too small will look out of place if it’s obscured beneath a larger bed. Furthermore, consider the theme that you’re trying to create in your bedroom. For instance, if you’re going for a rustic vibe, you could layer Southwestern-style rugs to incorporate tribal designs.
